From Portugal, to you
Crafted in Santo Tirso, Portugal's Vale do Ave region, known for generations of expert cotton weaving.
The pattern is articulated into the Jacquard loom, allowing the floral relief and the ground cloth to emerge as one fabric. After weaving, each coverlet is dyed, cut and finished in Portugal before it's sent to you.
Modern machinery makes the structure possible, while experienced hands guide the fall and feel of the finished piece.
A woven relief
The floral motif began with a vintage quilt and was carefully redrawn with our mill. Rather than being printed or embroidered, the pattern is woven into the fabric using a Jacquard loom, creating a subtle raised texture that becomes part of the cloth itself.
A versatile layer
Made to be the layer that lives on top. Fold it over your sheets for weight without heat, or leave it at the foot of the bed to pull up when the night turns cool.
Transparent Chemistry
Standard bedding uses up to 8,000 chemicals, but bedding labels don't name a single one.
The Matelassé Coverlet is tested and certified by OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 CLASS I for:
0 Pthalates
0 Formaldehyde
0 BPA or BPS
0 Industrial Softeners
0 Wrinkle-resist finishes
Beyond Organic
While organic bedding standards like GOTS® ensure the original fiber is organically farmed — it doesn't lab test the finished product.
OEKO-TEX® CLASS I rigorously tests finished textiles to ensure all the steps in between the farm and your bed — chemical softening, brightening, fixing, and dying — are free of harmful substances.
